Dental Exams

Routine recall examinations with annual X-rays are the best way to assess the health of the gums, the bone supporting the teeth, and the teeth themselves. X-rays not only detect early signs of cavity formation but also show if any bone loss has occurred around the teeth as a result of periodontal (gum) disease.

Periodontal probing is done by taking a series of gum measurements of the pocket depth around each tooth. This is a screening tool used to detect signs of active inflammation and bone loss. Using this information, in combination with other medical risk factors, customized treatment plans are developed to meet each person’s individual oral health needs.
