Dental Cleanings and Hygiene

One of the most important factors contributing to a healthy mouth and smile is good oral hygiene. This includes both good daily home care (brushing and flossing) and coming in on a regular basis for professional cleanings and check-ups.

A professional cleaning mainly consists of scaling and root planing. This is the process of removing tartar, a form of hardened dental plaque from both above and below the gums in areas that are otherwise inaccessible to the toothbrush and floss. Teeth are also polished on an as-needed basis to remove any surface staining. Topical fluoride may be administered to restrengthen enamel and prevent future cavities.

It is important to remember that good oral hygiene doesn’t end with your hygiene appointment. Regular home care, through daily brushing and flossing is equally important in promoting and maintaining a healthy mouth which, in turn, plays a significant role in contributing to one's overall health.
